Southerness in relation to other famous golf courses of Scotland.

The course itself lies in the shadow of the major relief feature in area, Criffel, which dominates the horizon. On a clear day you can also see the mountains of the lake district across the Solway, as well as if they were only a couple of miles away. The Isle of Man can also be seen at times.

To get to Southerness from Glasgow, you take the A74 South from Glasgow as far as either Moffat or Lockerbie, then follow signs for Dumfries. From there you take the A710, heading for New Abbey. You go on through New Abbey, staying on the same road until you see signs for Southerness. Follow the signs which will be on your left, and head down onto the coastal plain away from Criffel, which will now be behind you.Stay on that road until the golf course comes up on your RIGHT.
